The Decorah Public Library is hosting a wide variety of free programs for all ages and interests throughout the week. Adult programs include a Northeast Iowa Poets’ gathering (Mon. April 14, 6:30pm), “Jesse James in Iowa:” a presentation and book signing by Minnesota author John Koblas (Tues. April 15, 7 pm), “Dogs in Print:” a lunchtime book chat about favorite titles featuring canine companions (Wed. April 16, 12-1 pm, don’t forget to bring your lunch), and free 10-minute chair massages courtesy of Stephanie from Day Spring Spa (Thurs. April 17, 2-4 pm, massages done on a first come/first serve basis).
The Friends of Decorah Public Library will be doing a fundraiser at Decorah Pizza Ranch all day on Wed. April 16; 10% of all Pizza Ranch sales proceeds from dine-in, take-out, and delivery orders will be donated to the Friends group. People attending the “Dogs in Print” book chat at the library are welcome to have pizza delivered during the lunch hour.
The library will be tracking the number of books read by people of all ages between April 13 and April 19 so stop by, email, or call the library to add your books to the tally sheet (no names or book titles required). For additional details about National Library Week programs, contact Kristin at 382-3717. Regularly scheduled programming for children and young adults will be available, too.
Anyone with overdue materials will be able to take advantage of fine amnesty all week long. Bring overdue items to the front desk of the library and let a staff member know that they are overdue and that any fines for them should be taken off of your account. Fines will be removed regardless of how overdue the materials are.
Decorah Public Library Director Lorraine Borowski says, “In honor of National Library Week, I’m proud to be a player in fulfilling the mission of the library. As an all-encompassing resource center for the leisure, entertainment and life-long learning of area residents, the Decorah Public Library staff, Board of Trustees and Friends of Decorah Public Library strive to capitalize on opportunities to provide innovative services to the public. Happy National Library Week.”
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
