DPL & Luther College present "Imani Winds"
Decorah Public Library will host Imani Winds, an innovative wind quintet, Saturday Feb. 16, 10:30 am, in the 2nd floor Mezzanine Gallery. Community members will have a rare opportunity to participate in a “meet, listen and talk” session with members of the group, which has performed extensively across the United States, released three recordings, and been nominated for a Grammy award. The all-ages event is open to the public free of charge thanks to a partnership with Luther College.
Imani Winds, founded in 1997, explores the links between European, American, African, and Latin American musical traditions. Their name is derived from a Swahili word for “faith.” The group’s repertoire combines classical wind instruments- horn, flute, bassoon, clarinet, and oboe- with influences drawn from jazz and world music as well as original compositions by ensemble members.
