David Faldet, Jones Professor of Humanities and chair of the English Department at Luther College will be reading and signing books at the Decorah Public Library at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday April 30.
Faldet has recently had his book, Oneota Flow, published by the University of Iowa Press as part of its American Land and Life series.
The book is a natural history of the Upper Iowa basin, surveying the story of the Upper Iowa from its geological beginnings to the present time, and profiling people currently involved in conservation in the river valley.
Faldet will give a general introduction to the book and then read selections dealing with the period from 1803 to 1848. This period moves from the Louisiana Purchase to federal exploration of the area, to the creation of the Neutral Ground to house Wisconsin’s displaced Winnebago, to the date when the Winnebago were relocated to Minnesota.
Faldet grew up in Decorah, and his family has lived in the area since the 1850s. He has taught at Luther College since 1989.
After his talk and reading there will be a reception and he will sell and sign copies of the book. Contact Kristin at Decorah Public Library, 563-382-3717, for more information.
