Join rural Decorah artist Carl Homstad at Decorah Public Library Thursday February 5, 7:30 p.m., to view a slideshow of photographs taken on a recent trip to Japan. The program is free and open to the public.
Homstad has been an artist for over 30 years. His work includes color woodcut prints, oil paintings, watercolors and murals. Although many of his ideas come from the area around his home and studio, he also travels extensively in pursuit of ideas. Homstad has traveled to the Grand Canyon, China, and most recently to Japan. He is known for his naturalistic landscapes that depict universal themes of people in nature.
A 1973 graduate of Luther College, Homstad also studied art overseas in Europe and China. His work has been featured in more than twenty solo shows, eight juried shows, and six invitational shows. His outdoor, indoor, and school murals can be found in multiple locations throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Nebraska. Homstad has received five awards and four grants. His art is available at nine galleries in the tri-state area and can be found in art collections worldwide.
