Decorah Public Library will host Oneota Valley Youth Choir Wednesday evening, June 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Decorah Public Library will host Oneota Valley Youth Choir Wednesday evening, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. as part of the summer reading program, “Be Creative @ Your Library.” Formerly called “Music Friends” directed by Helen Mitchell and then Mary Lynn Morrisey, the choir has been under the direction of Linda Martin since 2003. The choir members, children ranging in age from 7 to 14 years, will be performing at the library in celebration of the fine arts.

Linda Martin is a lifetime music educator. She has taught all levels of vocal/choral/general music in public schools, churches, privately, and now at Luther College. As an instructor in music at Luther, she currently teaches beginning theory and ear training, music education classes, and conducts Cantorei, a 70-voice women’s choir.

“Two Toes & a Thumb” with Katelyn Yee (guitar), Carina Yee (violin) and Katie Perez (violin) will share the evening performance with Oneota Valley Youth Choir. “Two Toes & a Thumb,” organized in 2006, has performed for the summer reading program talent show at the Decorah Public Library and during the worship service at First United Methodist Church in Decorah.

The program, located in the mezzanine of the Decorah Public Library, is free and open to the public.
