Decorah Public Library will host a free public screening the 2009 documentary Only When I Dance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday July 28. The film is in Portuguese and English with English subtitles.  

Only When I Dance is a feel-good documentary that follows Irlan and Isabela, two teenagers from the violent favelas of Rio de Janeiro, as they pursue their dreams of becoming professional ballet dancers. The story takes viewers from Rio- where the youths’ communities must raise the funds to support their ambitions- to exhilarating ballet competitions in New York and Switzerland. It’s a film about the determination to dance, and the price one must pay for talent, ambition, and success.

Directed by Beadie Finzi, Only When I Dance has been screened at sixteen international film festivals to date.
