Decorah Public Library invites the public to swing by and enjoy some free, live holiday music from 6-8 p.m. Thursday December 15 on the 2nd floor of the library. Local trombone ensemble Tromboneota will play holiday songs while the Friends of Decorah Public Library host a Book Night, where people may purchase the books on display to add to the library collection.
Tromboneota is a regional trombone ensemble consisting of various trombonists from the Oneota Valley. The ensemble performs for local festivals, private celebrations, and churches. Tromboneota was officially formed in the summer of 2011; members include Jason Mott, New Hampton High School band director; Kirk Larsen of the Luther College Biology Department; Ray Torresdal of the R.L. Torresdal Company; Benjamin Yates, Luther College adjunct low brass faculty; and Michael Smith, Luther College low brass faculty. The set list for the evening will include a variety of classic Christmas tunes such as “Deck the Halls,” “Joy to the World,” “Carol of the Bells,” and many other favorites for all ages to enjoy.
At the Friends’ book night, those who wish to do so may purchase a book, book on CD, or magazine subscription in honor or memory of a loved one and donate it to the library. Selections will include fiction/non-fiction literature for children, young people, and adults. Purchases are tax deductible. The Friends of Decorah Public Library is an organization that promotes lifelong learning and literacy in Decorah. By supporting children's reading programs and providing informational activities for all the age groups, the Friends help the library be an active contributor to the community and provide for library needs beyond the regular library budget.
