Kick off the summer family-style at Phelps Park Thursday June 9 from 5:30-7 p.m. The night will be filled with fun activities and live music, with food and drink available for purchase. Phelps Family Fun Night is free and open to the public thanks to the sponsorship of Decorah Bank & Trust, in cooperation with Decorah Parks & Recreation and Decorah Public Library, and in conjunction with Lawn Chair Night. In case of rain, festivities will be moved to the covered parking area located underneath Decorah Public Library.

Family Fun Night begins at 5:30 p.m. with a Summer Carnival for ages 10 & under. Carnival booths include Sharp Shooters, Hole-in-One, Bean Bag Toss, face painting, and more! Booths cost 1-3 tickets (tickets are 10 cents each) and there will be lots of fun prizes to win.

Eat dinner with Toys Go ‘Round: $3 will buy a slice of pizza, beverage, and a cookie and all proceeds will benefit the non-profit toy lending library, which is located in the lower level of Decorah Public Library.

Members of the Bread and Butter String Band will be providing live music for the whole family to enjoy. Although members of the band are all eighteen and under, they have about forty years of bluegrass and old time music playing between them.  Alex Snow plays the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and the bones. Sam Beard plays the fiddle. Parker Beard plays the fiddle and the banjo.  Michael Eastwood plays bass and Gabe Smith is on guitar. The Bread and Butter String Band has played for local dances, the county fair, private concerts, jam sessions, and even classical groups.  According to the band, they “just love to play in whatever setting or whatever style!”
