The Friends of Decorah Public Library will hold their 2012 Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday April 30 in the 2nd floor Mezzanine Gallery. Following a brief business meeting, the Friends’ guest speaker will be Dr. Philip Freeman, Head of the Classics Department at Luther College. He will be speaking about his newest book, “Oh My Gods: a Modern Retelling of Greek and Roman Myths.” The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Dr. Freeman, a recognized international specialist on Greek, Roman, and medieval culture and Celtic studies, is frequently sought for presentations, appearing recently on Minnesota Public Radio, National Public Radio, and at the Smithsonian Institution. He received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas, a Language and Literatures Master of Arts degree and a doctoral degree in Classical Philology and Languages from Harvard. Prior to assuming his present position, Freeman taught at Boston University and Washington University.
The Friends group was created to be a support organization for the Decorah Public Library. The Friends help raise awareness of the Library in the community and sponsor many Library programs, as well as doing work 'behind the scenes' to help make the Library a facility relevant to all the residents of the greater Decorah area. Come and join your “Friends” for an interesting evening at the library.
