Decorah Public Library will host Houston Nature Center’s naturalist Karla Bloem and Alice the Great Horned Owl Monday, July 2 at 3:30-4:15 in the mezzanine of the library as part of the children’s summer reading program, “Dream Big-Read!”
Are an owl’s eyes more like binoculars or a magnifying glass? Are owls brightly colored or do they have duller colors? What shape is an owl’s beak? Choosing from a variety of animals and other objects, children will get to select the pieces that illustrate these and other owl adaptations. Once all the correct adaptations have been picked, Alice the Great Horned Owl will come out for a visit. You’ll hear why she can’t live in the wild, find out about some of her adaptations, and discover why having a pet owl isn’t a good idea.
Questions regarding the children’s summer reading program can be directed to Sally Stromseth at the library by calling 563-382-3717 or by email: childrens@decorah.lib.ia.us.
