Come to Decorah Public Library at 7 p.m. Monday Nov. 18 to learn more about the orphan trains that brought orphaned and abandoned children to Decorah and Waukon 100 years ago.

Presenter Elaine Eadie of Waukon is one of the foremost historians on the topic. Eadie’s father and uncle arrived on the Waukon train in November 1913.

The orphan train movement was most active between 1853 and 1929, during which time more than 250,000 children were relocated from metropolitan areas on the East Coast to foster homes across the country.

In her talk, Eadie will discuss the history of the movement as well as sharing stories passed on by her father, Gilbert Eadie. Attendees will be invited to share stories about their family members’ orphan train experiences as well.

Call Decorah Public Library at 382-3717 for more information.
