Decorah Community Schools needs volunteers in the schools
Teachers at the Decorah Community Schools have requested volunteers to assist with one on one activities with students! You do not need to have an educational background, just the desire to help a child succeed in school. The positions are flexible and can be set to fit your schedule.
The following needs have been identified at the Decorah Community Schools:
1. English Language Learner classes are in need of volunteers to assist students in increasing their English Language reading skills by listening to the students read aloud and by explaining vocabulary words.
The activity will take place early afternoon for about 40 minutes and volunteers are needed every day of the week, thus we will be recruiting more than one volunteer to fill this need throughout the school year.
2. Pre-kindergarten classroom needs "an extra pair of hands" to assist with activities in the classroom. Volunteers will read to the children and assist with art projects.
3. Middle School Special Education classroom needs volunteers to assist students with increasing their reading skills by reading aloud to the children and helping them with their mathematical skills.
4. John Cline music instructor is seeking an extra pair of hands to help with singing and dance instruction in the classroom.
All positions are flexible and can be tailored to meet the volunteer's schedule. Several volunteers are needed throughout the week. For more information, contact the RSVP office at 563-382-3717.
