Find out more about ways you can lend assistance with various gardening projects in the community.
Garden assistance needed…... The days are getting longer and our thoughts are turning towards gardening. We have had requests from three different agencies seeking help with gardening activities. The opportunities range from helping out at Aase Haugen Nursing Home with their raised bed projects to helping at Spectrum Network with their Wellness Garden or helping with a Decorah Park & Rec summer Driftless Garden project for 8-10 year old children. The activities will range from helping to prepare the soil to planting seeds, to garden maintenance and harvesting. Barthel Eastern Star Nursing Home is looking for volunteers to help tend resident's flower boxes this summer.
We are even looking for a few good cooks to lead activities on utilizing the harvested crop for meals and healthy snacks. Let us know if you would like to lend your talents and skills with these gardening projects.
Did you know...RSVP volunteers have been serving at Seed Savers with the Herman’s Garden Project where seeds are sent to non-profits all over the United States to help feed the hungry serving over 450 agencies last year. Way to go Seed Savers and volunteers!
