RetirDeana Hagemaned and Senior Volunteer Program welcomes new Director

Decorah Public Library staff have announced that Deana Hageman began her new role as Northeast Iowa Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Director on April 24. “Deana brings a wealth of experience derived from a long and varied career in the nonprofit world to her new role as RSVP Director,” stated Decorah Public Library Director Kristin Torresdal. “The hiring committee was impressed with her passion for service, paired with a background that included both recruiting and managing volunteers and connecting adults with meaningful employment opportunities.”

Torresdal indicated that the process for selecting the new RSVP Director began last fall, with planning and brainstorming about the type of leadership that would continue the level of services currently offered by the program. “We were looking for someone dynamic, creative, and collaborative in carrying out the day-to-day work of the program. Deana’s demonstrated record of having brought those qualities to previous roles and her enthusiasm for working with volunteers and nonprofit groups aligned with what we were looking for.” In addition to the Library Director, the hiring committee included representatives from the Library Board of Trustees, library staff, and City staff.

A Northeast Iowa native, Hageman has devoted her professional career to serving the needs of diverse populations. She has advocated for youth and families in foster care and adoption, provided job coaching and placement for adults with disabilities, recruited and trained Hospice volunteers, and chaired an Emergency Preparedness Healthcare Coalition.

Torresdal said, “Deana’s diverse skills in program development, recruitment, training, and communication, paired with a community-oriented mindset and a genuine love of people, make her a great fit for the RSVP Director position. She is excited to lead the RSVP program and to meet the many volunteers and volunteer station staff who make RSVP the thriving program that it is.”

Hageman can be reached at 563-277-5181 or Anyone interested in learning more about about the RSVP program should visit or visit their Facebook page.
