Prescription medications can help us live longer and healthier lives, but any medication has the potential to do harm – especially when misused. That misuse can include not understanding your medication needs, leaving prescriptions where others can access them, and intentional abuse.
“Generation Rx” seminars will be held this winter and spring in Allamakee, Winneshiek and Howard counties. The seminars, aimed at preventing prescription medication misuse, are presented by volunteers with Northeast Iowa Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (NEI RSVP) and Helping Services for Youth & Families.
According to Deana Hageman, Director of NEI RSVP, “Whether prescription misuse is intentional or not, it’s a problem that needs to be addressed. We hope these presentations will alert people to potential dangers of misusing prescription medications and promote safe medication practices.”
The seminars, which are geared to an adult audience, will provide attendees with information about safe storage of medications, proper disposal of unused medications and tips for taking your medications as prescribed.
